Can I confirm my own / family member's ID for a DBS / Access NI check?

It is not best practice and inappropriate for an individual to verify their family member's ID.

Please note, you should never confirm your own Identity Documents and they always need to be viewed by a distinct individual.

All ID checks must fully comply with the DBS/Access NI code of practice and must comply with:

• Meeting with the candidate face to face or via live video link

• Seeing the candidate’s original identity documents (no photocopies, and the identity checker must be in possession of original documents whilst on live video link)

• Checking that the appearance of the candidate matches dates of birth and photographs on the documents

• Checking that the documents are genuine with no signs of tampering; and

• Checking that personal details on the documents match those entered by the candidate on the Verifile screening form (you must call us on +44 (0) 1234 339 350 if you notice any differences)
