What do background checks involve and how far back do they go?

When conducting background checks, the information will depend on the client's specific requirements.

When we complete background checks, we'll investigate any checks that have been placed on the system.

If academic checks are requested, we will reach out to the institute to confirm the candidate's study.

With employment we will contact a referee that we have researched to request a reference.

For other checks, we will complete them based on the requirement of the check.

You can find a list of our checks here Verifile - Services. This will also advise on turnaround time and check requirements.

Regarding how far these checks go back, again, that is dependent on what has been selected by the client.

Certain checks, like a credit check, have a set period of time they cover, but you can also select a time period for your checks.

For example, you may wish us to check your candidate's activity for the last 3 years or maybe 6, or even 10 years. This means the candidate should also provide us with any employment, education or gaps during this time for us to review.

If you would like information on certain checks or how to add an activity period check, then please call us on +44 (0) 1234 339 350, email us service@verifile.co.uk or use our Live Chat service.
