What steps can I take to verify a candidate's identity for a DBS check if their name has recently changed?

Which documents a client should request from their candidate to confirm the candidate's identity for a DBS check, if the candidate's name has recently changed (for example, if the candidate has recently got married, but has not changed their name on all of their documents yet).

If the candidate has recently changed their name, however, the name change has not yet been applied to all of their documents, the client can still proceed with manual identity verification by requesting the following documents:

  1. A primary identity document (i.e. passport) in the candidate's previous name.
  2. An additional document proving the name change (i.e., marriage certificate).
  3. Any additional document as requested by the level of the DBS check (i.e. bank statement, utility bill, P45, etc.)
