What is the UK Directorship Check?

A UK Directorship Check allows employers to quickly assess possible risks and identify possible 'conflict of interest' scenarios when appointing directors and senior management.

The check, by its nature, is an investigative search, meaning there will never be just an exact match list.

We currently apply additional filters to identify exact matches wherever possible. However, the nature of the search means there can always be possible matches.

We run the check using first and last name, and do not include the middle name in the initial search as you do not have to register as a director with your middle name.

By searching the full name, this would only return full name matches and not partials.

There are also entries with no date of birth within the database, so by searching using a date of birth, possible matches would be eliminated from the search.

Where there are over 50 possible matches, we run a full name search and use the date of birth to locate exact matches.

The supplier we use has only two filters: Director Number and Date of Birth.

This means that with every result we look at, we must review the date of birth and then open any possible matches to rule out the appointment date.

There is no automated way of doing this, hence why it is chargeable beyond the first 50 results.

The search/filter options include:

  • Full name search
  • Full name search with date of birth
  • First and last name search with date of birth

We already search by last name; however, we cannot guarantee that the only surnames returning are specifically just the candidate’s surname.

We cannot filter by appointment date, but we use the appointment date when performing the manual review.

Because of the way we apply the date of birth and full name search, the client already has the exact matches. Any remaining results to search through will be possible matches.

We therefore currently do everything we can to reduce the number of results, whether that’s using the filters (middle name, DOB) or manually reviewing the orders to review appointment date (first 50 included in price).
