A Digital ID 'UK Right To Work' check came into place when the government changed the legislation, enabling Digital Identity confirmation of an individual's ID to be completed via an approved app or system.

Please note that a Digital Right to Work Check can be successfully completed by candidates who hold UK or Irish current and valid passports 'Only'.

Note: If the candidate follows the digital process but their document cannot be verified using a digital ID app, and the client has requested a Digital UK Right to Work check only, the following will occur:

  • The check will either be closed with the appropriate traffic light outcome, as the document cannot be verified
  • Alternatively, the check may automatically cancel

The client will either have to place a new check or confirm in person that this is their candidate in the ID document.

Please see the article on the user guide for digital ID apps to help assist candidates:

A candidate who does not hold either a UK or Northern Irish current and valid passport cannot complete the Digital UK Right To Work Check. If the client places a UK Right To Work (Digital & Conditional) Check, and if the digital section fails, then the candidate can proceed with the conditional process.

Candidates do have the right to opt out of Digital ID as their consent is required for this service.

If a candidate does not hold a current and valid UK or Irish Passport, or does not want to complete the Digital Route, the check will proceed using the Right to Work Conditional process. This will only happen if a UK Right to work (Digital & Conditional) check has been placed by the client.

Note: The conditional process is designed for candidates who are either unable or choose not to use the digital option for their right-to-work check.

This process involves a more manual verification method, allowing the use of a broader range of documents, such as share codes, expired UK passports, and others, which are not supported under the digital approach.
